RENAISSANCE
Brian Keeley
The Science
RENAISSANCE refers to the sense of rebirth following heart transplantation, as well as the iconic image Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man, which symbolises humankind's relationship with science. This artwork incorporates a life-sized self-portrait created using MRI imagery, showing the inside of the artist's body (including the transplanted heart) rather than the recognisable surface representation of traditional portraiture. Surrounding the figure is a collage of the 7,600 empty packages from the medications which are needed to sustain the artist's life during one year.
