The Science
“NRG ball" was created in 2015 as a digital artwork associated with a "Beams of Light" artistic installation for my PhD thesis “Installation Art and Its Role in Science Education”. The artwork was an audio-visual installation, first presented in 2015 at Not Another Art Shop Gallery (Athens, Greece). The artwork explored the different aspects humanity attributed to light throughout history associated with global mythologies and literature as well as scientific diary entries. "NRG ball" is my way of exploring how I personally understand light--a fictional creation, an amalgam of many different beliefs and visualisation as one image that appears in my mind when I encounter the words energy or light or photon--words referring to something that is always there, but we are not able to see, touch or perceive with our senses. Part of this study was investigating what type of representational stereotypes I would use. Would it be inspired by scientific representational methods: a diagram or a poster? Or would it be something more influenced by the sci-fi visual culture? “NRG ball” is a technical-styled ball of light: the round shape is a characteristic indicating a surface tension of particles and the existence of a surrounding atmosphere.
