Lockdown Colours

The Church Café Team St. Marien

Artwork part of ‘Diversity’ Issue 6

The Science

Coronaviruses are a large subfamily of viruses found in the bodies of animals and humans. Since 2019 and to this day, the life of everyone on the planet has been affected by COVID19 (part of the coronaviruses subfamily) in one way or another and many of us share and understand the experience of living in a lockdown. The name of this collaborative art piece reflects the diversity in colours and nuances of the lockdown experience i.e. of our emotional and physical world. It also reflects the neurodiversity, cultural backgrounds and/or special needs of the members of the group, who prepared this art piece. The red thread connecting all the pictures represents the connection between the different effects of lockdown and the sense of unity between the group members.

The Artists

The Church Café Team St. Marien is an inclusive group whose aim is to promote cooperation and meet the needs of diverse persons within the team itself and the local community as a whole. The team has eleven members, four of which have special needs. Activities include outings and raising money for charities. During the 55 days of full lockdown in 2020, team leader Barbara Röttgermann and Anne-Katrin Schulte initiated a project to enable communication and support the well-being of the team during this difficult time. Artistic pieces completed by individuals in isolation were subsequently assembled by one person to create a collage.

Team Members include : Barbara Röttgermann, Anne-Katrin Schulte, Ulla Woltering, Sabina Althoff, Miranda Niermann, Angelika Wilmsen, Simone Scheffler, Doryn Herbst.
