Elsewhere, elsewhen
sacralysis befalls and impossibility cracks
with a pang, instance quickens
generation is detonated
the initiating peal reverberating still
its shockwave the brane
of an omnipotent germ
that now burgeons in the void
shucked from the point
of its ruptured husk of symmetry
an octarine plasm of antestuff
bellowing roil of vigour and vim
scuds, flurries, spumes, as space begins
and suddenly anneals, as time expands
precipitating minute beads of form and function
resons, pristine and perennial
the units of essence, setting as forces fix
fast, at last, ready
to reionize and decouple from the dark
at the dawn of dawns
the infant universe is translucidated
unblinded by the light fantastic
to how far, farther, farther
the genesis aperture dilates
as photoreaction proceeds
revealing development in process 
in a deepening field, exquisitely
bright motes, arcane sparks and other
curvature-kindled farglows ignite
flying their colours over spacetime
on the new and ageless light
both particle and wave, and neither, metatronic
pointillist revelateur of a cosmos unfurling  
a jubilant exhibition of display
as along the webbing leylines of possibility
chaos-wrangling power laws order
simple matters to confuse, elements to agglomerate
transform, variegate, and radiate existence
mesmerised by their own physicality
they molecularise marvelously
attribute themselves positions and velocities
and bond into the versatile combinatorics
with which, in the vast crucible of time
patient, pragmatic, stochastic causality
naturally, necessarily, concocts
a difference that makes a difference
the synthesis of synergy, a way
to dam torrential entropy
a special phase-change, locking in
the perplexest suite of properties
informing a vital, mortal, new mode of material
a protean stuff, a cybernetic goo
hylozoic, hyperactive, hyper-reactive
an involving polymer of wholes
concorellating in strange loops
internally reflecting, self-inducting
imagineering its persistence
with a soft obduracy, a lax integrity
contriving cognition, volition, temper and mettle
becoming nature as-it-were possessed
the guest state of matter
we think we are, instinctively, we intuit
an especial provivo in the cosmic constitution
for us to come to wonder that we came to be
we seem to sense a place prepared, a time set
an arrangement made, for us
in the principia universalis
a beckoning to being, lo
Earth as ark of a non-ergodic covenant
its firmament girdled with awe
and its girding fundament of law
contained by such largesse
yet keenly malaware, we
the massing generations of multitudes
set to learning to construe our gratitude
through existential exegesis
calibrating conscience and values
complexifying our mentalescopes
adaptive optics, wet antenna, fuzzy logics
trained on the phenomenal plurality
this luminous deluge of meaning
kaleidoscoping psychedelia
ikebana in the dazzle
mind making itself known
in grandiose proclamation
the medium is the message
being beautifully exploded
in spectacular semiotic splendour 

The Science

‘Invitation’ is a poem that spans from the Big Bang to reflexive human consciousness. The mysterious creative power of entropy, and its relation to information and life, are explored. The complexification of Nature is reflected in the inclusion of the type of highly technical vocabulary constantly generated by Science, as it expands and expounds our conception of the Universe. 

The Poet

Alexander Cartwright is a multi-lingual poet, metaphysicist, and inventor, currently based near Stonehenge, in England. His work aims to bridge the so-called Two Cultures, bringing challenging terms and concepts from science into relation with mythic themes, in the form of poetic cosmogonies. He enjoys nouning verbs, and verbing nouns, and he believes that poems are Negentropy Crystals.
